Overview[]
After a guest appearance in the June-July 2019 issue of Manga Time Kirara,[1] the series began in the following August issue.[2] This is a dazzling coming-of-age story of "yuri" and "universe" in which a shy and shy girl, a self-proclaimed alien girl, and their friends who have gathered around them grow up in the process of building a rocket to go to space.[3]
It has a strong storyline and relatively few gag elements. The star decorations throughout the panels and the poetic dialogue of the characters give a pop and fantastic impression, while the unique style includes science fiction elements such as the fictional "cosmic language" and the creation and explanation of model rockets.[4]
The manga is set three years after the successful launch of a satellite by the private sector in Japan.
Nominated for the comics category of the NEXT MANGA AWARDS 2021.[5]
An anime adaptation was announced on October 6, 2022, and will premiere on October 9, 2023.[6][7][8]
Plot[]
Umika Konohoshi, a first-year student at Fujino Misaki High School, has a complex about her personality and her inability to communicate well with others. One day, Umika meets a mysterious new student, Yu Akeuchi, who calls herself an alien. Umika, who wants to go to space, and Yu, who wants to go back to space, set a goal to build a rocket with their own hands. Later, they formed a Rocket Research Association with Haruno Takaragi, the vice class president, and Matataki Raimon, a mechanic who has been absent from school, and their dream of going to space is gradually getting closer.
Characters[]
Fujino Misaki High School[]
Rocket Research Association[]
The association was founded by Umika, Yu, and Haruno with Matataki as their first step toward space, using a plastic bottle rocket they made as a starting point. Umika serves as president and Emihara as an advisor. The main activity at the moment is the production of model rockets (small rockets using gunpowder as the engine).
- Umika Konohoshi (小ノ星 海果 Konohoshi Umika)
- A frightened and shy first-year student. She wants to express her feelings to aliens living on planets other than Earth.
- Yu Akeuchi (明内 ユウ Akeuchi Yū)
- A self-proclaimed alien. She has no memory of her arrival on Earth and was in the lighthouse when she came to.
- Haruno Takaragi (宝木 遥乃 Takaragi Haruno)
- A vice class president of Umika's classmate. She is a romanticist with a girly side, and when the tension rises, she speaks theatrical lines.
- Matataki Raimon (雷門 瞬 Raimon Matataki)
- Umika's classmate. Although she was a high school student, she was an excellent mechanic enough to build robots, but she had a strong aggressive, and lone wolf side that always kept people away.
- Akane Emihara (笑原 茜 Emihara Akane)
- Umika's homeroom teacher and advisor to the Rocket Research Association. When she's at school, she wears her hair in a chignon and teaches in a jersey.
Students[]
- Saya Kagami (鏡 紗也 Kagami Saya)
- The class president of Umika's class. She was also the group leader of Umika and Yu's group in the overnight experience learning.
- Kinashi (木梨)
- A classmate of Umika and her friends. Her nickname is "Nasshi" (なっしー). She is a member of the volleyball club. At first, she was not interested in model rockets, but Umika's enthusiasm made her understand.
Tatsuoka Science and Technology High School[]
The team won the Model Rocket Championship the previous year. The use of computers in rocket design and simulation enables highly accurate launches.
- Kei Akizuki (秋月 彗 Akizuki Kei)
- A sophomore and the director of the Space Research and Development Club. The first appearance was only one scene in which she handed over a plastic bottle that was scheduled to be discarded to Umika, and her name was not revealed.
- Neon Teruya (照屋 音々 Teruya Neon)
- A second-year club member. Half up with brown hair and green tip color. She is out of uniform and has a light flirtation with the world.
- Michiru Yugumo (夕雲 みちる Yūgumo Michiru)
- A first-year club member. She wears a ponytail and a cap outdoors. She runs the Space Research and Development Club's activity channel on a video posting website.
Others[]
- Honami Konohoshi (小ノ星 穂波 Konohoshi Honami)
- Umika's little sister and is called "Hona" by Umika.
- Akikazu Takaragi (宝木 明一 Takaragi Akikazu)
- Haruno's grandfather. He is the former caretaker of the abandoned lighthouse where Yu is located. He used the lighthouse after it was decommissioned as a playground with Haruno when she was young. He enjoys collecting antique radios and communicating with supposed aliens with his ore radio, which has a mysterious function.
- Unknown alien
- A mysterious person that Umika and her friends communicated with on Akikazu's ore radio. It speaks a cosmic language and makes "home" on a different planet than Earth, where Yu's home song is recognized.
Cosmic language[]
A fictitious language supposedly used by aliens. It is expressed using a non-existent writing system. Although there is no official version, it is believed to be a partial adaptation of Esperanto, and although difficult to understand, it is at least legible. A cosmic language dictionary is available for sale in the works.[9]
- Peggjov=movlov, pivou bovvu=vuv (ペッギョヴ=モヴロヴ、ピヴー バヴヴ=ヴヴ Peggyovu=movurovu, pivū bavuvu=vuvu)
- It means "hello."[10] According to Yu, it is a code word for friendship used when aliens make contact with each other.
- Bonan (ボナヴー Bonavū)
- It means "yossu" in Japanese.[11] Matenon is often used as a reply.
- Matenon (マティヴー Mativū)
- It means "hey" in Japanese.[11]
- Kamarado (トモラーヴ Tomorāvu)
- It means "friends and comrades."[12] This word was written on the first rocket flown by Umika and her team.[13]
- Malobeema (マルオベーヴ Maruobēvu)
- It means "tsundere."
