Toilet paper is one of those products that you probably don't put much thought into. It's something you've gotta have, but as long as you have it, you're good, right? Maybe you have your TP as a Subscribe & Save item on your Amazon account. Maybe you just buy whatever is on sale at the store. Maybe your significant other or roommate is the one in charge of replenishing the toilet paper supply.
Whatever the case may be, we think you actually should put some thought into what you're wiping with. At BestProducts.com, we want you to have the absolute best. So, our editors got together to discuss our favorite toilet paper brands. We also did a deep dive into the this crazy thing called the internet, where we learned there are a lot of folks out there who have strong opinions about toilet paper. Some even go as far as creating extensive spreadsheets to get the best deal possible.
We also read elephant dump-sized piles of customer reviews on Amazon and scoured through other review sites' analyses of toilet paper. We don't want to put you and your butt through a trial-and-error process of finding the softest, strongest, most plush, and reasonably priced toilet paper out there. So, after doing a weeks worth of research, comparisons, and testing of our own, we're happy to report that we found the best toilet paper brands out there! đź’©
Charmin Ultra Strong is some of the best toilet paper you can buy. This two-ply workhorse received solid reviews all around by Amazon customers, Insider Picks, and Wirecutter, whichsaid it "absorbed the most, ripped more cleanly from its roll and seemed stronger when wet" than other brands.
Our sister site Good Housekeeping found that this option was soft and absorbed well, but added that it could prove a problem if you have finicky plumbing, since it took more time to break down when they tested it for dissolvability.
We've found that it’s some of the most luxurious and longest-lasting toilet paper out there, and we highly recommend it. And for those who prefer softness to strength, consider Charmin Ultra Soft, instead. It offers a cushier feel for the same pricing point.

Scott is a popular choice for folks on a budget. It's the only single-ply toilet paper that we recommend. Its rippled texture helps it to clean more effectively and it's certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which ensures that it's manufactured in a socially and environmentally responsibly way.
Scott is also the TP brand that our senior home decor editor, Melanie Yates, relies on. "It’s strange to say, but I think Scott’s 1-ply rolls are really good," she said. "Not only is this brand usually the cheapest — next to CVS’s store-brand version, which is a spot-on dupe — but I actually like its thinner texture, and that it doesn’t tear into little whisps as soon as you pull it."

Cottonelle's Ultra ComfortCare toilet paper feels just as thick and robust as brands like Charmin and Quilted Northern, butGood Housekeeping found that it was quicker to dissolvethan these other plusher options — making it a good choice for homeowners with a septic system on site.
This option is a best overall pick byYour Best Digs and Wirecutter for its balance between softness, cleaning power, and absorption. "You'll use less of it because it works better," an editor wrote. "[The Cottonelle]hits the sweet spot with both high test marks and high user satisfaction."
We also like that it's one of the few brands on Amazon that lets you purchase just onesingle pack of it. It's perfect for those who don't have the closet space to stash dozens of rolls.
"If you ever wanted to wipe your butt with a cloud, this is probably the closest you'll get to itwithout stealing Aladdin's carpet," said one Amazon reviewer about this three-ply offering from Quilted Northern.
It's a super soft option with low lint — perfect for people in search of a more luxurious bath tissue without having to worry about leaving any lint, or anything else behind.
The TP is Sustainable Forestry Initiative Sourcing Certified, which means it’s manufactured in an ethical manner so as to protect water quality, biodiversity, forests, and natural wildlife.
Quilted Northern's Ultra Plush toilet paper was also named a top pick by BuzzFeedand our sister-site Good Housekeeping for its ultra plushness, luxurious feel, and its ability to get the job done. It's as soft as a pillow, and is the pick we'd want to use to blow a runny nose.

Our Contributing Editor Sanah Faroke tried the Quilted Northern EcoComfort toilet paper on a whim and has not gone back to her previous brand of choice, Charmin, after strictly using it for years.
"Iwas convinced Charminwas the only toilet paper worth my money," she said. "These Quilted Northernrolls are extra-large and unlike other brands that claim to be really strong, this one surprisingly does not tear."
Not only do you get a good clean, you can also feel good in knowing thatthe environment is in good hands too! Quilted Northern plants three trees for each one used.Plus, the packaging is 52% plant-based and is produced with 100% renewable energy. Unsurprisingly, all trees are sustainably sourced and certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative that we previously mentioned.
If you want to stock up on toilet paper and not worry about it for months, we recommend the Sam's Club-exclusive Member's Mark brand. It comes in a pack with 45 large rolls that offer superior quality to other budget brands, according to our tech editor Brandon Carte.
The product has more than 3,400 5-star reviews and we think you'll be quite pleased with its softness, durability, and long-lastingness. One problem: It's only available to Sam's Club members, (membership starts at $45 annually).
But if you want to stash up on some TP, we think Member's Mark's Ultra Premium Bath Tissue stretches your dollar the furthest.
